Wedding Tree on the trail to Devil's Bathtub in Spearfish Canyon

When you are hiking to Devil’s Bathtub in Spearfish Canyon, you may happen upon an unusual site.  The wedding tree is a couple of trees growing real close to each other.  The pine tree and birch tree are growing almost on top of each other.  I’m no tree expert, but by the look of those trees they may actually be a “shotgun wedding tree.”

Hiking in Spearfish Canyon is a must do for any nature lover finding themselves in Western South Dakota.  Devil’s Bathtub is just one of the great place to hike to.  My other favorites include Community Caves, 11th Hour Gulch and hiking from Savoy.  It you find yourself in the Black Hills, plan at least a day to explore Spearfish Canyon.

Just wanted to say “Hi” and let you know that I’ve been going through the archives on your site, as i am moving to Spearfish next month. Really enjoy the site. I know the Black Hills fairly well, but am curious as to the location of the caves pictured under the “Enjoy the Black Hills” title?

Thanks for visiting the site Dan, those caves are known as Community Caves also called Wild Cat Caverns and are just about 3 miles from the city of Spearfish in the Canyon.
